Meeting Initiation
Meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by Jim Goldsmith. At 8:00 pm, members present joined the Historic Commission for half an hour (see their minutes).
Meeting Minutes
Gordon/Tran moved to accept March 13th minutes as amended. Committee unanimously approved.
Meeting discussion of set agenda:
1. Completion and distribution of RFP
v Goldsmith requested that the RFP be distributed by Liebman to the WSRC and Historical Commission as soon as possible.
v Goldsmith requested that the WSRC come to the 4/24 meeting with final RFP comments.
v Goldsmith suggested that the RFP be distributed to Stephen Crane for his review and comments after the 4/24 meeting.
v Goldsmith suggested that the RFP be provided to Gelerman shortly after 4/24 meeting.
2. Removal of historical designation
v Goldsmith summarized the discussion at the Historical Commission Meeting. The HC agreed that if an economically feasible response is not received to the RFP, they will agree to the demolition of the building.
3. Horsley Witten work
v Committee discussed HW contract and motioned as indicated below. Tran/Gordon moved that the acceptance of the Horsley Witten contract on 3/13/06 be amended to read acceptance of the contract for $16,100. Vote was unanimously in favor of the motion.
4. New grant possibility
v Lauenstein and Gordon discussed the existence of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Healthy Communities Competition which is offering a $30,000 grant. This grant would cover a portion of the HW work.
5. Meeting attendance
v Goldsmith stated we must have a quorum at meetings and asked that all members make a better effort to attend.
v The committee agreed to keep Monday’s as the meeting day.
Other Discussion Items
v Selectman Bill Heitin stated that the Finance Committee is supportive of the WSRC and the removal of the asbestos from the school. He stated that the Building Inspector had visited the Wilber and would make a determination regarding its safety. He stated that it is the town’s legal opinion that if the school is a health and safety issue, it can be demolished.
